Day 2 of 12 Reasons to Rejoice: Advent Devotions
Few religions in the world deny that Jesus was truly human, but even fewer believe that Jesus is the One True God. Our limited human minds struggle to grasp that a man could be God and that God would ever humble himself enough to become a man.
We tend to dismiss anything that seems illogical.
Hi, I’m Lauren Thell, author of Christian YA fiction and blogger for teens who are ready to exceed the world’s expectations.
What does the Bible say about this?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been madE. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, THE WORLD DID NOT RECOGNIZE HIM. The Word BECAME FLESH and made his dwelling among us. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, WHO IS HIMSELF GOD and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
-John 1:1, 3, 10, 14, 18 (Caps added for emphasis)
It doesn’t get much clearer than that. Jesus was the Word who became flesh. Jesus is himself God.
Which means God walked on this earth.
How does that make you feel? Are you comforted, knowing the one you believe in has authority over all things and wasn’t just here to spread some good ideas? Do you feel closer to God, knowing he doesn’t operate from afar like a kid driving a car with a remote control?
You’ve probably never met the President of the United States—arguably one of the most powerful in the world—in person. But the Creator of the world set aside his glory to walk among his people.
