Jesus is our Advocate, Strong and Sure

Day 4 of 12 Reasons to Rejoice: Advent Devotions

What does it mean when someone says Jesus is our advocate?

In the Biblical story of Esther, there is a scene where Esther is called upon to approach the king with a request. The problem during those times was that it was illegal, so to speak, to approach the king without being first summoned.

The penalty for breaking this infraction?

Death.

Hi, I’m Lauren Thell, author of Christian YA fiction and blogger for teens who are ready to exceed the world’s expectations.

That may sound extreme, but it’s not terribly different today. If you don’t believe me, try approaching the President of the United States without receiving security clearance first.

If we can’t even approach the leader of our country, how are we ever to approach the God who created that leader? We need an advocate.

And we have one.

That’s right, Jesus is our advocate, our high priest, and he actively champions us before the throne of God. Because of what he did, we are free to approach God without fear for our lives and souls.

Jesus is like the big brother who stepped between the naughty little brother and the angry parent, times a million.

He took your place on the cross and he continues to intercede for you even today.

Rejoice, because there is no greater advocate than Jesus!
